68-Year-Old Man Rescued After Falling Into Well While Retrieving Phone in Oyo

A 68-year-old man was rescued on Sunday after falling into a deep well while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone at Mobolorunduro Mosque, Molefalafia, in the Oke-Ado area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, Oyo State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
A local resident, Ajadi Olaleye, told The PUNCH in Ibadan that firefighters were able to rescue the man alive and subsequently handed him over to his family for proper medical attention.
Confirming the incident, the Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Service Reform, Adebayo Akiinwande, said the fire service was alerted through an emergency phone call around 6:10 am on Sunday.
“The distress call reported that an elderly man had fallen into a well at Mobolorunduro Mosque, No. 30 Ajeigbe Street, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, Ibadan,” Akiinwande said in a statement.
He explained that a rescue team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Adedeji, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team discovered a 68-year-old man trapped inside a deep well. He had fallen in while trying to recover his lost phone,” Akiinwande said.
The fire crew quickly launched a rescue operation, employing proper safety procedures and equipment to bring the man out safely.
“The man was rescued alive and handed over to his family for further care,” he added.
Akiinwande said the incident was caused by a lack of awareness regarding the dangers of entering a well without proper training or equipment.
He urged members of the public to avoid engaging in risky activities that could endanger their lives.
Akiinwande also reiterated the commitment of the Oyo State government to safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens.
