MOUAU VC Warns Fresh Students Against Indecency, Promiscuity, and Cultism

The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Professor Maduebibisi Offor Iwe, has cautioned newly admitted students against engaging in social vices such as promiscuity, prostitution, cultism, and examination malpractice. Speaking during the university’s 31st matriculation ceremony, he emphasized the institution’s strict stance on ethical behavior and its zero tolerance for any form of misconduct.
Professor Iwe revealed that 4,781 students had been admitted into various academic programs for the current session, urging them to uphold the principles of moral and academic excellence.
“A university is a community of decency and moral decorum—a place where insipid individuals are transformed into jewels, worthy in character and learning,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that MOUAU was not a haven for rascals or immoral behavior. He stressed that the university would not tolerate indecent dressing, cult-related activities, or any behavior deemed contrary to the institution’s values. He also hinted at upcoming Senate-approved sanctions for students found violating dress codes.
“It is still an enviable virtue for male students to dress decently, moderately, and reasonably,” he added, emphasizing the need for students to reflect discipline and decorum in their conduct.
Professor Iwe encouraged the matriculating students to focus on their studies and take full advantage of the opportunities available to them, reminding them of the financial sacrifices made by their parents and sponsors.
On the university’s development, the VC highlighted progress under his leadership, including advancements toward making MOUAU a fully digital and electronic institution. He also urged eligible students to explore federal student loan options to ease the financial burden on their families.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the reinstatement of previously de-registered programs and announced plans to introduce new academic programs to boost the student population and expand the institution’s academic offerings.
He reassured students and staff of MOUAU’s commitment to upholding its mandate and fostering an environment of academic and moral excellence.
