President Tinubu to Confer National Honours on Select Lawmakers June 12

President Bola Tinubu is set to confer national honours on selected legislators as part of this year’s Democracy Day celebrations, scheduled for June 12.
This was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by House of Representatives Spokesman, Akin Rotimi Jr., in Abuja.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the leadership and members of the House of Representatives will participate in a Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, to mark the occasion.
President Tinubu, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, is expected to address the joint sitting of lawmakers.
“The programme will also feature goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of national honours on select legislators by Mr President,” Rotimi said.
The House spokesman further revealed that the theme for this year’s celebration is, “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”
Rotimi described the joint sitting as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, highlighting the critical role of the National Assembly in upholding democratic values, promoting accountability, and advancing national development over 26 years of uninterrupted civil rule.
He urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of Democracy Day as an opportunity for reflection, renewed patriotism, and a collective commitment to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united nation.
