NiMet Predicts Thunderstorms and Rain for the Next Three Days Starting Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rain across the country from Wednesday through Friday.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, early morning thunderstorms are expected on Wednesday over parts of Taraba, Kaduna, and Adamawa in the northern region.

Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over parts of Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi states.

In the North-central region, early morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Benue, Kwara, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Nasarawa States. Later, thunderstorms with rain are anticipated in parts of the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, and Plateau states.

The southern region will experience a cloudy atmosphere with chances of morning rain in parts of Ondo, Ekiti, and Edo states. Later, isolated thunderstorms with rain are expected over parts of Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers states during the afternoon or evening.

On Thursday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms over parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa, and Taraba in the northern region. Later, thunderstorms with rain are expected over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Gombe, and Bauchi states.

In the North-central region, patches of clouds with intervals of sunshine are expected, with early morning thunderstorms affecting parts of Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and the FCT. Thunderstorms with rain are anticipated later in the day over parts of the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau states.

For the southern region, morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Later, isolated thunderstorms with rain are anticipated over most parts of Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states.

On Friday, morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba in the northern region. Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain are forecast over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Kaduna, and Bauchi states.

In the North-central region, patches of clouds with intervals of sunshine are expected, with thunderstorms and rain anticipated over parts of the FCT, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Niger.

Thunderstorms are forecast over parts of Kwara, Benue, and Kogi states during the afternoon or evening hours. The southern region will experience a cloudy atmosphere with chances of morning rain over parts of Oyo, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states, with isolated thunderstorms with rain later in the day.

NiMet has also warned of strong winds that may precede thunderstorms, advising the public to take necessary precautions. These include securing loose objects, avoiding driving under heavy rain, disconnecting electrical appliances, and staying away from tall trees to avoid falling branches or broken trees.

Airline operators are urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
