Shettima Condoles with Families of Boko Haram Attack Victims, Assures Justice

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sympathy to families affected by the recent Boko Haram attack on the Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, pledging that the Federal Government will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

In a statement issued Monday by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima said the entire nation shares in the grief of Borno State and the Nigerian military over the tragic incident, which claimed at least 63 lives, including five soldiers.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and our gallant military over the painful loss of compatriots. These deaths have thrown the nation into mourning, but justice will be served for the bereaved families,” he said.

The Vice President noted that President Bola Tinubu has directed the armed forces to immediately review security operations nationwide, with emphasis on deploying advanced military hardware and surveillance systems. He added that Tinubu has also approved the acquisition of additional drones to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts.

Shettima reaffirmed federal support for Borno State, stressing confidence in the armed forces’ capacity to confront the insurgency. He also highlighted the Federal Government’s consideration of establishing state police, explaining that some security challenges require specialised local units with knowledge of terrain, culture, and grassroots networks.

Offering prayers for the victims, Shettima emphasised that the government remains resolute in defeating terrorism and restoring peace to affected communities.

Reports indicate that the attackers stormed Darajamal around 10 p.m. on Friday, shooting indiscriminately, burning houses, shops, and vehicles, and operating for several hours before military reinforcements arrived.
