Tragic Bus Crash in Guatemala City Leaves at Least 51 Dead

A devastating bus accident in Guatemala City claimed the lives of at least 51 people after the vehicle veered off a highway bridge and plunged into a polluted ravine, according to the city’s fire department.
The overcrowded bus was en route to the capital from San Agustin Acasaguastlan when it fell approximately 20 meters from Puente Belice, a major highway bridge spanning a road and creek. Disturbing images shared by emergency responders showed the wreckage partially submerged in wastewater, surrounded by victims.
In response, Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo declared three days of national mourning and mobilized the army and disaster response teams to aid rescue efforts. Authorities confirmed that the remains of 36 men and 15 women had been transported to a temporary morgue set up for the tragedy.
