How Ondo SDP Ex-Governorship Candidate Akingboye Allegedly Died After Being Pushed From Balcony By Wife

Bamidele Akingboye, former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the November 16, 2024 Ondo State election, reportedly died last Wednesday at the age of 60 at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.
A source has alleged that Akingboye’s death was the result of domestic violence, claiming that one of his wives pushed him off a balcony, leading to fatal injuries.
“With deep sorrow and a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our father, brother, mentor, and leader, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), CEO of Benshore Maritime, CEO of Clog Oil Systems, President of WeAfrica Group, the Olowomeye I of Ikaleland, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Governorship Candidate in the 2024 Gubernatorial Elections,” read a statement by Oyeniyi Iwakun, the deceased’s Personal Assistant and Media Adviser.
“Otunba Akingboye passed away earlier today at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos. He was a man of unwavering integrity, an accomplished businessman, philanthropist, visionary leader, and community builder who lived a fulfilled and purposeful life. He is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. Burial arrangements and further details will be communicated in due course.”
While official statements initially described Akingboye’s passing as sudden, a source who spoke to SaharaReporters on Saturday alleged foul play, insisting that his death was not natural.
“The SDP candidate in Ondo State who recently died was killed by his wife. She allegedly pushed him off the balcony,” the source claimed, urging law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the circumstances.
Photographs circulating online reportedly show the deceased with visible bruises and deep lacerations on his head and neck, further fueling speculation of foul play.
Akingboye contested in the 2024 Ondo State gubernatorial election alongside Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other candidates.
The police have confirmed that a discreet investigation is currently underway, assuring the public that all angles will be explored and no stone will be left unturned in determining the true cause of death.
Civil society groups, activists, and concerned citizens have called for transparency and a comprehensive investigation, warning against any attempt to obscure the facts surrounding the high-profile politician’s death.
