Cargo Plane Skids Off Runway at Abuja Airport, No Injuries Reported

Tragedy was averted this morning, December 11, when a cargo airplane skidded off the runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The incident, which occurred around 10:15 a.m., prompted the temporary shutdown of the airport.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident in an official statement released hours later. FAAN spokesperson Obiageli Orah revealed that the cargo aircraft, with registration number 5N- JRT, veered off runway 22 with five people on board. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

While the exact cause of the incident has not yet been disclosed, authorities have assured the public that investigations are underway. The temporary closure of the airport was necessary to ensure the safety of travelers and to facilitate recovery efforts.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about aviation safety and infrastructure at Nigerian airports. Passengers have been advised to stay updated on flight schedules as operations gradually return to normal.
