The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that significant improvements in power supply are on the horizon, as the Bola Tinubu administration works to resolve long-standing structural challenges in the sector.

Speaking with journalists in Ibadan on Friday, shortly after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Agodi Prayer Ground, Adelabu said the recent improvements in power supply are only the beginning of what Nigerians can expect in the coming years.

“The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. Rome wasn’t built in a day. And to build a solid structure, you need a strong foundation,” the minister said. “The power sector had serious foundational issues, which this administration has begun to address.”

He emphasised that the progress seen so far is “just the tip of the iceberg,” promising major advancements in the near future.

According to Adelabu, President Bola Tinubu is fully committed to lighting up the entire country. He recalled that the President reaffirmed this commitment during a recent ceremony in Port Harcourt, where a new power plant was inaugurated.

“President Tinubu’s key objective is to electrify every Nigerian home, business, institution, and industry. We are not relenting,” the minister said.

Adelabu noted that although he only assumed office in September 2023, visible progress has already been made.

“This is just one and a half years into the administration, and you’ve seen some improvement. I promise that within the next year, you will witness major changes that will revive industries, support small and cottage businesses, and bring light and happiness back to Nigerian homes,” he said.

The minister’s remarks come amid renewed government efforts to tackle Nigeria’s chronic power supply challenges, which have long hampered economic growth and quality of life across the country.
