Breaking: Elephant Kills Farmer in Ogun

A farmer in the Itasin-Imobi area of Ijebu East Local Government, Ogun State, has been killed by a wild elephant believed to have wandered out of a nearby forest reserve. The victim, identified as Musa Kalamu, was reportedly attacked on his farmland on Monday.
Local accounts reveal that the elephant stormed the farm and fatally assaulted Kalamu, who later died while being transported to a nearby medical facility. The tragic incident has sparked fear and outrage among residents, who say the animal has been a persistent danger in the area for years.
“This elephant keeps invading our community, destroying crops, tearing our fishing nets and now it has claimed a life,” a resident lamented.
The people of Itasin-Imobi are urging state authorities to take immediate action to prevent further loss of lives and property.
State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, confirmed the incident and said that government officials were on their way to the scene to assess the situation. The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, also verified the report, stating that the local police division received a distress call on Monday afternoon about the attack.
According to police, forestry officials have since been deployed to contain the animal and restore calm in the community.
A video circulating online shows the lifeless body of the deceased farmer, with visible injuries allegedly inflicted by the elephant. In the footage, distressed residents can be heard calling for urgent government intervention, describing the attack as brutal and unbearable.
“This is Kala. He was attacked by the elephants here. Look at his body, it’s torn open. We need help. This has gone on too long,” one voice says.
Community members are now demanding lasting solutions to the recurring wildlife threat, fearing more lives could be lost if nothing is done.
