A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, leaving widespread destruction and claiming over 1,000 lives. The tremors were felt as far as Thailand, where buildings collapsed, causing further casualties.

The quake’s epicenter was near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, where entire structures crumbled, trapping people under the debris. In Bangkok, Thailand, a 30-story building collapsed, leading to multiple fatalities and dozens of missing persons.

Rescue teams are racing against time as authorities fear the death toll could rise further. Myanmar’s military government has declared a state of emergency in six affected regions and has made a rare appeal for international assistance. Countries including China, India, South Korea, and the USA have sent rescue teams and medical supplies. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has also pledged support.

With aftershocks still being recorded, officials have urged residents to remain cautious. Rescue operations continue as families search for missing loved ones amid the devastation.
