Lomond School Becomes First UK Private School to Accept Bitcoin for Tuition

Lomond School in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute, has made history by becoming the first private school in the UK to accept tuition payments in Bitcoin. The move, announced by Head Teacher Claire Chisholm during a cryptocurrency conference, is part of the school’s effort to cater to both local and international families seeking more flexible payment options.
With annual fees for boarders set at £38,700, the school has partnered with FCA-registered crypto platforms CoinCorner and Musqet to securely process Bitcoin payments, converting them immediately into pounds to comply with UK financial regulations and anti-money laundering laws.
According to the school, the decision was driven by a growing number of international parents looking to avoid currency conversion hassles and risks. Looking ahead, Lomond may even consider holding a portion of its funds in Bitcoin.
This isn’t the school’s first step toward innovation. Lomond was also among the early adopters of the International Baccalaureate programme in Scotland and remains one of the few Scottish boarding schools open to both boys and girls.
As digital currencies continue to gain ground globally, Lomond School is positioning itself as a forward-thinking institution ready to embrace the future of finance in education.
