Microsoft to Establish First Cloud Region in Malaysia by Mid-2025

Microsoft has announced plans to launch its first cloud region in Malaysia, featuring three data centers expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2025. This development is part of the company’s $2.2 billion investment to enhance cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the country.
The new Malaysia West cloud region, located in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area, aims to support businesses and organizations with improved digital capabilities. Microsoft projects that the initiative will contribute approximately $10.9 billion to Malaysia’s economy and create over 37,000 jobs in the next four years.
Despite concerns over semiconductor chip export regulations, Microsoft Malaysia’s Managing Director, Laurence Si, confirmed that the company’s plans remain on schedule. He emphasized Microsoft’s strong partnerships and commitment to ensuring the cloud region goes live as planned.
This move strengthens Malaysia’s position as a key player in cloud and AI technology within Southeast Asia, providing secure and scalable digital solutions for businesses and public institutions.
